Are there different types of bridges?

by Dr. James Springer 16. August 2010 11:06

In some instances, a resin-bonded, frequently called a "Maryland Bridge," can be used to replace one or more missing teeth. Because the bridge is attached by a special procedure called bonding, it doesn't require the use of crowns or extensive tooth preparartion. Your dentist can determine whether this treatment method is appropriate for you.

Bridges can also be supported by implants. Implants attach artificial teeth directly into the jaw or under the gum tissue. Because thay require extensive surgery, candidiates for implants should have good health and have adequate bone with which to place an implant.

Trivia:

  • Approximately $2 billion a year is spent on dental products a year in the United States.  (toothpaste, mouthwash, floss and toothbrushes)
  • According to a "Time Magazine Survey", 59% of Americans would rather sit in a Dentist's chair than sit next to someone on a cell phone.
